1993 MARINER 75 HP NO FIRE ON #2 & #3

Just bought this boat, ran fine, then quit. After investigation, found I have no fire coming from bottom two coils. Is it likely that the stator has failed, or could it be that the two coils have failed. is there an easy way to tell which is bad (least expensive)??????????

thanks, I'll try that......I just called former owner who purchased boat & motor new.....said it had a recall when new for a stator problem? I'll try your suggestion first.

This engine uses an ignition module that includes the coil. As stated in the Mercury service manual, a failure of the #1 CDM will result in a no spark condition in #2 and #3, a failure of #2 or #3 will result in a no spark condition in #1. swap the #1 CDM with #2 or #3 and see if the spark returns. Odds are pretty good that the #1 CDM is failed. Give it a try and see what happens! Good luck!

Erm..1993 would not have CDM's. It should still have the large powerpack. It is most likely the powerpack that is causing the problem.<br /><br />TMD

most merc heads called them switch boxes, test the output to each coil, and check your grounds

DOH! My bad, you are correct Doc, this unit woulld have a switchbox and not CDMs. I stand humble and corrected.

I know I'm not suppose to solicitate for sell, but I cant help but say that I have a friend that has a good used switch box for that motor. It'll save you some money in buying a used one instead of a new one.
