HELP!!! I just picked up a 1972? 110 9.8 Serial # 3276881. I degreased the engine and replace the impeller. Now I have no spark. I was running OK before I did the work. I have checked the plugs and am getting no spark from the wires. I have disconnected the kill switch, so that doesnt seem to be it. Any suggestions? It has the Mercury Red and Yellow ignition modules.

Thanks in advance.

There must be a loose ground or hot connection somewhere on your unit. Taking the lower unit off shouldnt have anything to do with the electrical or fuel system on the motor. Dont quote me on that, anothe mech might correct me on that.
Go back and chack ALL wiring and connections on your motor. Removal of your flywheel may be neccessary. Good luck.
P.S. Fec, sorry for the delay on your problem also, I'm gonna check in my manual for a diagnostic on this problem.

OK, the only thing I'm seeing is a possible stator problem. The stator is locaten under your flywheel. Take it off and take it to a dealership to have it tested. Do you need advise on taking your flywheel off?

When you say degreased the motor...are you saying that you washed it, or sprayed it with something?

You might have soaked the ign system.

TMD

Re: Mercury 110 9.8hp - No Spark

I took the flywheel off and set the gap on the points and generally cleaned up everything. Suprise, suprise, it now works. Now if I can just get the darned new impeller to spin! The key pin is so loose on the new impeller that it spins on the shaft. Tried using the old one and it worked better for about 5 minutes. Oh well, looks like its back to the marine shop for more parts....
