I recently purchased a battery isolator to connect my 2 batteries. I need help on which wire from the engine I need to connect to the isolator. The positive wire from the engine currently serves as the charging and starting wire. How can I connect the isolator and switch effectively

Didn't the switch come with a manual/instructions?

Depending on the type of switch (manual turnswitch for batt. 1, 2 or both?), the idea is to be able to connect ALL powerconsuming or powergenerating devices to the batteries, #1, #2 or both. This can be done by keeping a common negative and switching the positive. The charge will folow the switch and go to whatever battery is selected.

Unless the switch is designed for it, I'd recommend switching when the engine is running, only.

Therefore, all that was originally connected to the battery positive should be moved to the common 'out' on the switch and the batteries' positive's to switch's '1' and '2', respectively.

The batteries' negative should be joined and stay connected as when only one battery (or two conned as one) were used.

The switch and the isolator both came with instructions. They talk about getting a direct 12 volt feed from the altenator. Currently I only have the starter/charging wire. The isolator will only be effective if I can separate the two. I need to know where to tap into the 12 volt charging feed and eliminate the combination.

is this a mercury isolater?

I can only say what I have in my 04 manual for 90 -125 hp .
Not positive its the same for your engine.
but the diagram
2 red wires on your VR/rectifier both go to your starter sol.The small one is the sense wire that stays on the starter sol.The large red coming out of the VR/R goes to the center terminal(a)of your isolater. Then primary bat goes to b1 of your isolater and secondary bat goes to b2.
You also need a large red from your primary bat to the starter sol(same post you took off the wire from VR/R)
Now I would chk with the correct manual before doing this though.if you can understand it
Rich
