Mercury 70 HP year??

Hello,<br /> I was looking at a 70 h.p. merc on a pontoon boat that I like. I was wondering what year it was. The serial number is:<br /><br />ob276256<br /><br />model number : 1070312bd<br /><br />I looked at one merc chart and it did not have this serial or model number for 70 h.p.<br /><br />please help.<br /><br />Thanks guys!!

ou have to plug in the 0B in the begining, that's how Mercury identifies model years.

ok, I was just trying to see it on the chart:<br /><br /> http://www.pfs-ware.com/kwast/merc_serial_number_reference_gui.htm <br /><br />there is no serial number of ob276256 for the 1989 70 h.p.<br />instead it shows c100000<br /><br />???????<br /><br />please help me to understand how to read the serial number because I am lost.<br /><br />thanks-

Your engine is actually a 1988 model year. The chart you reference shows begining serial number for that particular model year. In your case, the serial # is 0B276256. That falls after the starting serial number for 1988 (0B240451) and before the starting serial number for 1989 (0C100000). Hope that clears things up for you!

70 B240451 - C099999 1988 3 cyl Dropping the "0", of course.<br /><br />From here:<br /><br /> Modellguide <br /><br />Click on Modellguide, then Mercury, then 70-115HK and look for the numbers.
