The Robalo 2140 I just purchased has a Merc 225 efi offshore motor w/300hrs,everything on the motor looks original and fine it runs great.I have read in some posts that some of the vinyl tubing should be replaced every three years. Is there anything else that might need to be replaced to prevent problems
in the future?

I have a 1994 200hp carbed engine also on a Robalo mines a 2120.

Things to check.

Fuel filter
Fuel pump diaphragm (I’m not sure on your engine someone else may be able to help here)
Thermostats
Water pump impeller
Lower unit oil replacement
Plugs
I would also run a compression test on the engine to give you a good baseline for future comparison.

If your not sure when most of these items were last checked or replaced it would be a good idea for you to replace or check and this will give you a good starting place for future maintenance.

My Robalo has been a great boat – Good luck

RFish >()> :) :)

I did a compression test before I bought the boat
all cylinders were within 2lbs of each other. They checked out the same after sea trial. On sea trial the motor wot 5400rpms@48mph with stock prop 50 gal of fuel and two people aboard.I had the water impeller and lower unit checked by a merc.tech and he said they were fine. I had him change the lower unit oil after he was done.He also said the plugs were in great shape. The gas, water, and oil lines I did not ask about.Should these be changed just to be safe?

The fuel line (inside the cowling) on my 200 was changed when I had my carbs re-built about 21/2 years ago when I first got the boat. I also on my own have changed the small vacuum feed lines on the engine. The lines which came off did not look bad I just changed them because that's the way I am, if its off and not outrageously expensive I change the tubing. The only other lines I might change would be the oil injection feed and pressure lines to the oil tank as these are exposed to the sunlight which is the worst for these things. I don’t think you need to go crazy worrying about this just keep an eye on the hoses and if there is any cracking when you bend them it’s a good time to change.

RFish >()> :) :)

RobaloFish,
Thanks for the advice!I have never owned a mercury motor before My BW Had a Evinrude on it and after ten years when I sold it it ran like new with general service work. :( (My wife was tired of gettig wet!) As it goes I have gone to a higher drier boat

hello
offshore31. I am curious how your tech checked the water pump. was it by looking at the tell-tale and going yup is whizzing or was it by disasemmbling and replaceing it. trust what robalofish told ya. do that pump every 2 years along with the thermostats and relief diaphram and you should never need a pump. most customers that "Need" a pump need a head gasket or piston as well. there is a fileter where the recirc lines dump back into the vapor seperator that needs servicing at 100 hour or yearly intravels. there is a water seperator that needs servicing at least yearly on the power head. there is a filter on the high pressure pump, inside the vapor seperator that should be serviced every 200 hours or 2 years. the low pressure fuel pump should be rebuilt every 3rd year . and the engine killing vynil oil lines need periodic replacing.this motor is generally trouble free but do the maint or you may find out how expensive overhauls are. not a pretty sight on a merc.
but other than that :) good luck and keep posting
