1988 black max 150
How would I know if my carbs need to be rebuilt? I just bought the boat last year. Got 2 mths of good boating, seems to run fine. Only in no wake zones it loads up.(read: tilt the engine to increase the RPMS will stop the load up ????)
Thanks Dead Eye

Dead Eye ...Many things could be going on...but I would think if trimming up in no wake zones works do it.BUT if other things start happening,be sure to tell your head wrench about this.
Could be carbon build up,poor spark or a lot of things.Even too much trolling. But if trimming works...DHP

Re: Carb Rebuild?

Are there any visual signs for a carg rebuild?Time frame: Years, Hours, how often it is used? If a boat is winterized properly does that extend the life of the carbs?
Thanks , Dead Eye

A carb clean/rebuild never hurts. If you can pump the bulb and see gas coming out the carbs, it may be time. Not hard to do. Kits are very reasonable. Hardest thing on mine is getting all the other stuff off so I can get to the carbs.

a carb rebuild is part of the regular care and
maint. of any OB. how often depends on use/care.
a faulty carb can cause a lean condition and blow
a cylinder pretty fast. pay me now or pay me later
kinda thing IMO.
