1991 Mercury 60 hp oil injection remove or not

I just purchased a 16 wahoo with a 1991 3 cyl Mercury 60 HP outboard with oil injection tank on the engine. The cowling on this engine has a clear rectangular section to see the oil level. I've been told that oil injection is not as safe as mixing the gas and oil straight in the boats tank. I'm not sure if I should remove the oil injection or not. Any information or opinions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks SeaQ

SeaQcumber, the only injection systems I've seen any trouble with involve V-6 engines and those are few and far between. Is the injection on your engine giving you trouble? Generally speaking, the 60 hp engine family injection has been trouble free. Like daddy always said, if it aint broke, don't fix it!<br /><br />Good luck!
