The rubber cap the covers stern pole light base on my boat is broken off and therefore Im left with a hole that water can get into. Do I need to purchase a new one or will it be ok like that? I couldnt find just a cover for it only the whole assembly. Great forum!
Thanks!

I would definitely try to find a way to cap it off and keep the water from messing up the contacts. It might even cause a short when you try to use the stern light.
Our local hardware store has an aisle of cardboard drawers with lots of oddball stuff in them including some rubber caps/plugs. You might get lucky and find one that would fit your light socket.

Your local marine center may be able to order just the cover from the manufacturer. It would be a special order and with shipping might be close to the price of the entire assembly, but it couldn't hurt to check with them.

I've done this before with different parts.

or:

You might find a rubber stopper that fits at a medical or chemical (where schools get lab supplies) supply vendor.

The next time you open a bottle of wine ,make sure you finish the entire bottle so you can use the cork to plug the hole.Black magic marker will color it so it wont look too bad.Charlie

Most hardware stores have bins/drawers with very specialized items. ACE and TrueValue are two. They have rubber corks (stoppers) that you could run a screw into to secure a short length of bead chain to keep it from getting lost.
