Look on the hub and if not there look on the prop barrel.

Re: Props

Okay I finally got the Time to pull my Prop. On the Hub are the Numbers

PD 4879572A4 17P

Now while I was shopping I noticed that there are 14 1/2 15.0 and 14.0 Props, what is the Difference?

My Engine is Taching out 4800, and I would like to get a little better in the Speed Dept, but I am also wanting some better Holeshot action.

The Prop I have right now is nicked up a Little so I am going to replace it.

Am I asking for to much?

Re: Props

Okay I went back and learned that I have a 14.0 17P Prop. I am learning. IF I went to a 14.5 19P Prop, would I get better Speed and Pulling Power?

Re: Props

You need to go down for better hole shot. Sounds like you are a little over propped already. I would think you want a top end RPM around 5000-5500.
I've got a spare alum one I am trying to sell, it is a Michigan Wheel 15 1/4 X 15. Suppose to fit 1983 up Merc, don't know if it will fit your 120 Merc or not. The number on the box says it is compatable with 48-78116A4 merc number. I am thinking maybe 150-300 HP's engines. I used it for a spare om my 200HP Merc.
OPPS! Sorry about that, I was thinking outboard, not sterndrive. Thanks for catching it LubeDude

Re: Props

Okay, If I need to go down, would that be in the pitch or the diameter?

So if I am over propped, a 13.50 X 15 P would be better?

Because we are talking about a stern drive, you are not over propped. You are actually about dialed in. If you want a better hole shot, I would go to a 15P four blade stainless. You might even gain a little in the top end department.

Re: Props

Okay thanks for that info, as far as a 4 Blade Prop, I read somewhere where it said for my 120 Horse Motor, that was too much prop.

And the recomended prop is a 3 Blade.

Too much prop? NOT!

Recomended is the key word here, Dosnt mean you cant use a 4 blade.

Re: Props

Okay then, if I was to use a 4 Blade prop, would the same diameter be used with the same Pitch?

Lube Dude nothing came thru on your Post. I tried to quote it, but I guess if there is nothing to Quote, then you can't Quote, you can Quote me on that

Re: Props

Thats because the answer to your question is in the quote.

I asume you are now running an aluminum prop, a stainless would flex less and be heavier so you would need a 15P to run about the same as you are now, and the extra blade will cost you some RPMs, so I figure if you try a 15P Stainless 4 blade you should be about in the ball park.

Re: Props

But at what Diameter? Keep the same 14.0 or should that be reduced to help compensate for the Stainless Prop?

Re: Props

I think I would stay the same, diameter really doesnt seem to make a huge difference, unless you make a drastic change.
