I'm new to boats and would like to change my lower units oil, My manual only makes reference to Quick silver oil, I purchased some Pennzoil Marine High viscosity lower unit gear lube thats SAE 80W-90. Would this subtitution cause any problem or should I go with the OEM oil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tony 2,

Any good SAE 80W-90 high viscosity marine oil will work just fine. Happy boating!

Yes, that oil will be just fine, Make sure you replace the little seals behind the plugs when you do the change, they are generally the cause of water infiltration. Take both the fill (bottom), and vent, (top) plugs out and drain, (preferably overnight), then fill from the bottom plug untill oil comes out the top, then replace the top plug first as it causes a little vacume and you wont lose so much oil when you install the bottom plug. If you lose a little oil, do not sweat it, as my manual says that its actually a good idea anyway to allow room for expansion.
