merc year and model

my 150 merc i think is a xr2 150 magnum made between 1978 - 1986 i think mine is a 1980 but not sure. it's serial # is 5503559. is this the right number or is there another number i need to find? i have posted another question in topics under charging. i am a heavy equip. mechanic and ASE master certified auto meckanic but this boat work makes me respect boat mechanics because i am lost. this is a new world for me, please help!!!

Welcome to Iboats, wrenchtrnr!<br />Merucry engines are indeed identified by their serial numbers. Your's checks out as a 80'/81' engine (no difference between those two years for Merc). Judging by how low that serial number is, it's safe to say it's probably an 1980 engine.<br /><br /><br />Good luck! <br />Model Guide - In Swedish, but easy enough to understand.
