Mercury 75hp stalls

Hi all,<br /><br />I just bought a mercury 75hp 1985 4 cyl. it starts o.k. when i put it in neutral it stalls 3 out of 4 times. If I give gas it picks up.<br /><br />I put it at WOT it picks up but afer 100 yards it looses all power and stalles. To get it running I have to give it full throttle and choke, it starts but it runs at half the rpm it should ans if i lower the gas it stalls.<br /><br />The fuel tank if vented, no apparent fuel leak BUT I noticed that if I squeez the pump on the fuel line and hold it the put empties and the engine picks up. On neutral it runs fine but as soon as I put it in gear it stalls again.<br /><br />The thing is I tried this boat and motor 2 days before with the last owner and it ran fine in any condition.<br /><br />Whats happening ??

it could be that your fuel pump needs a new diaphragm kit, or there maybe some crud getting into the carbs, in which case a good cleaning out should do the trick, also a new fuel filter can be helpful.

The only filter I can see from the owners manuel is the one in the gas tank, I have checked it and it is not cloged . Is there an other one ?

Hi all,<br /><br />Can u believe i changed the spark plugs and tied it . I spent a full 5 gallons of fuel and everything is great.<br /><br />Thank you !!
