I am going to replace the throttle cables on my MerControl and I am wondering if I should just order new ones from my closest merc dealer or if there are cheaper aftermarket cables I can purchase? I am also going to replace the hydraulic hoses on the power trim unit and the wiring harness that plugs into the motor, what are some of your valuable opinions on replacing these?
I am also going to add a tach. to the motor, will a standard tach be sufficiant? What is the red line on this old 115hp inline 6?
I live in Kitchener Ont. Canada.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely Jon

Nice savings man! Thanks for the reply, I just happen to need 12' cables ;) Assuming the cables will work for my setup (mercontrol and 78 merc 1150) What do you want for them? Are they new?

Do you know where I mite find a new hydraulic hose set for my mercury power trim after market? I dont see them at Boaters world, thanks for the link though :)
regards Jon

Thanks man check your email :)
So how do you like YOUR motor? Has it been fairly reliable? I have to rebuild my boat before I can put mine to the test :) I got it started fine before I pulled it off the boat so I heard it run for mabie 10 mins :) Sounds powerfull :) I have to get the prop and skeg welded up aswell as the previous owner must have had a thing for rocks... ouch.
Regards Jon

Nice!! Glad to here the motor is a gem! Did you ever find a good place to get the wire harnes and plug that goes into the motor? Mine is rotted too. How about the hydraulic lines I cant seem to find anyone who sells just the lines, all the rubber is rotted off the outside of my hoses they look nice and white but I dont trust them!
Jon

Re: 1150 merc parts

jheron, The engine wiring harness may be obtained from any number of websites. I thought the price was lowest at www.surplusunlimited.com.

The rubber on the exterior of my hydraulic hoses also fell off some years ago. I taped it with black electrical tape, and it looks OK. You could get some black wire covers from an auto parts store for a custom look. You can also wait for them to leak prior to replacing them!

Re: 1150 merc parts

I have the same engine, guys, and thats about the only thing on my boat that I -can- count on. I looked into getting my Trim hydrolic lines replaced, and they wanted some un-godly amount for them (Ive mentally blocked out the price). I dont see why a set of truck hydro lines wouldnt work. gonna wait for mine to blow up, then Ill try it. My choke solenoid is beginning to fail, but other than that, its a gem.
