I have a 1990 Mercury 135. Every time I turn a corner the gearbox changes into neutral. Otherwise on straight the gearbox is fine.

Re: Mercury 135 gearbox

i dont think its actually changing gears, i think your prop is ventialting/ sucking air. my prop does this also. but i know why mine is, its my own stupid mistake. how high is your motor in relation to the transom.

your cavitation plate( just abopve the prop) should be about even, within an inch , with the very bottom of the boat. check this out and let us know

No. it is definitely slip[ping out of gear. It only happens on a right turn and I suspect a cable fault?

Re: Mercury 135 gearbox

I'm sorry if I appeared rude, I was trying to be brief. I have only purchased the boat last week and this was it's first trip. I just don't think it's a prop problem as it only happens turning one way. It may be a cable problem but if it is I do not know how I would solve it. Once again, apologies.
Cheers Jm

So, after you make the turn and the engine pops out of gear, what procedure do you use to get it going forward again?

Hi Jayjeeper,
I restart the engine in neutral and it then runs fine until a right turn is made. Very strange.
Cheers
JM

Sounds like you're going to have to replace the shift cable... It's probably all gummed up....
