This problem started with a constant alarm. The motor started bogging underway. The mechanic is so booked that we've been waiting for over a month & a half for him to fit us in .He did do a check of the overheat and oil sensors(pulled the connections-- alarm still sounded) and said its not overheating & that we had a bad horn.We bought the manual and it says that there is supposed to be a third warning which is a red light that comes on when the oil or overheat sensors get triggered but the light has never come on.The manual states that in either overheat or low oil if all three warning are not on at the same time the CDI unit should be replaced--well we replaced that and the boat ran better than ever for about 20 minutes just like it did before all this crap started :D .Then we slowed down for about 5 minutes and when we went to speedup it started bogging out again  .So far I replaced the gas tank, bulb and lines, we've used seafoam, we've checked all the wires & connections when we replaced the CDI, they all seem good.I've cleaned & regapped the plugs, cleaned the gas bowl and filter checked all the fuel lines, cleaned the oil float etc. I'm at a loss for what to do next.I'm ready to get rid of the doggone thing. Any ideas left for me?

Re: getting desperate--motor still bogging

We read the manual & it said that the CDI unit has a feature that shuts down the rpms in working with the sensors to protect against damage to the motor.Could something be triggering this rpm thing? I can't understand why it ran so great for that 20 minutes when we replaced the CDI. The #@*@ thing didn't even sputter when I gave it full throttle it ran better than ever. It seemed to be running faster than before too. Ok sorry for going on about it but the wife is ready to kill me ---wasting money on stuff that doesn't help is ticking her off. PLEASE HELP I'd rather be driving a boat than paddling one.

Does the horn still sound?

The mechanic unplugged the horn because it was going off just by turning on the key even without the motor running, but if it was hooked back up I know it would probably be blowing. The bad part is that we dont have any other outboard mechanics around here either.

Plugged the horn back in,turned the key and the horn stills sounds even without the motor running.Did a compression check 145 top / 140 bottom. Re-checked all wiring and connections,re-checked all hoses and all looks good.

Disconnect the tan/blue wire on the engine that goes into the main harness that goes to the control box at the helm. If it still sounds then that wire is shorted in the harness, or in the control box itself. If the beep stops then it is the oil module or the overheat sensor.

Re: getting desperate--motor still bogging

I unplugged the horn in the key area just to get rid of the noise for now. Am going to replace the overheat thermo-switch as well as the oil sensor in the cap(oil sensor comes with new float etc.)Wasn't too thrilled about the price of them but a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do right?;)Since the problem originally started after the alarm sounded I'm hoping one of these sensors is the problem. I had the wife watch the fuel bowl underway to see if it was staying full when I accelerate--thought maybe the pump wasn't keeping up but the fuel seems to be flowing real well up to there. Will let ya know how it goes.
