75hp only fires on 2 of 4 cylinders

1986 2-stroke merc. 75 only has spark on cylinders 3 and 4. Possible Trigger? If so are there 2 triggers one for each bank? How do I check the triggers?

a trigger failure effects 1+3 or 2+4 trigger must have 5 volts output sounds like the stator or switch box you can swap red+red/w blue+blue/w wires to if it's the stator

So I need to swap the blues with the reds at the switch box? If I was to replace the stator and the switchbox would that probably fix the problem? The wires were very brittle and I was thinking about replacing trigger and the stator.

Also I have a mechanics puller and was wondering if that would work to pull the flywheel.

tracker,<br /><br />I have this same motor and I would suggest getting a manual and a multimeter. Test the stator, trigger and coils before just slapping parts to her because that can get pretty expensive. When my stator went I got a weak spark on all cylinders and my motor wouldn't start. While troubleshooting I found a coil that had a corroded terminal and learned a lot about my motor.<br /><br />I'm not an outboard mechanic, but with a manual, a multimeter and help from the folks at iboats, I was back on the water.<br /><br />I would suggest using a mercury flywheel puller, which you can find on ebay, to pull the fywheel.<br /><br />TripleC

I ordered a manual and removed the flywheel. Both the stator and trigger wires are broken. I ordered a trigger and stator. Hopefully this will fix the problem!! Will post when installed and let everyone know how it goes!! Thanks!

Tracker,<br />What you are doing should fix it,but find out why the wires are broken.Or the new units will also have broken wires.Unless You mean the insulation is comming off.<br /><br />DHP

The insulation on the wires seemed like they got hot. The insulation just cracked off when i moved them. They were also corroded underneath the insulation, kinda greenish.
