when I closed in my boat I noticed a lot of fine carbon all over the deck of the boat. I don't know why my ehaust has all this carbon in it. It's a 98' mercury XL150 and runs great. I do run quickleen in my gas, could this cause my problem, or is something serious about to happen?

Re: carbon

Burnt oil = carbon...

It's better in the exhaust than being left in the motor itself...

Why are you running quickleen?????

I use the quickleen to control carbon and dri-fuel for instant starts in the winter. I've had the boat five years and have never missed a beat. I just couldn't understand why all the carbon is in the ehaust thats being sucked in the boat. It sure made a mess and is the first time it has happened

Re: carbon

So you just recently noticed the carbon residue after adding the quickleen?

If so, it could be decarbing the motor some causing excess residue that could be noticeable...

Just a thought....

By the way, you shouldn't need any of them... A good stabilizer is all that you might want to use if stored for the winter...

I don't see anything serious by the way....

Re: carbon

after going over the motor with a good visual inspection I found a small tube with a checkball in it near the carbs. After a lot of searching I found it was the drain tube for the lower cowl. after a little degreasing of the tube and cowl area I put it back with a little adheasive silicone. now I'm thinking I got enough water in the lower cowl for some to enter the lower carb causing decarbing, but not enough to make it run bad, I'll let you Know if the condition has stopped, since i'm heading out this morning
