frozen prop on inline merc

hello, i have a inline 6 with a frozen prop, and i mean the prop wont come off the shaft. itsa nice prop and i want it , BAD!<br /><br />i took the prop nut and washer off and tugged and tugged to my hearts content but got no movement. prop is SS if that helps.<br /><br />any ideas?

Heats the only way when they are frozen but be CAREFULL!!! don't have the noggin to close exspect to pay a bit more for some melted parts

Short of getting violent with it, most 'prop Docs' or dealers will have a puller for getting the stubborn ones off.

Try soaking it with PB Blaster a few days and then adapt an automotive type gear puller and try that. Also might try a rubber or plastic hammer around the edges. If you use heat you probably will have to rehub it. Patience is the key.

Bummer....well its back to soaking, sippin and strainin.<br /><br />Soak it with penetrating stuff...<br />Sip a beverage...<br />Strain while pullin...<br /><br />Dont mix up the soakin & sippin juice...<br /><br />The puller is about the best bet. Like they said, the prop may pull off the hub but then all you need is a rehub job.<br /><br />Good luck!

Hey PHATMAN..put the puller on the prop and make sure that you have it seated and straight (the ears of the puller as far under the prop as possible and that the puller is inline with the prop shaft. Apply some pressure on the puller (dont get gorrilla with the pressure but some pressure) apply the lubricante and then as you either spin the prop GENTLY with about a 20oz ball peen start tapping on the barrel of the prop. A rubber coated dead blow hammer is even better. May take some time but it will loosen up and come off. Before you do all this take a close look and see that the splines are properly lined up. I have seen people run props on a shaft where they hadnt tightened the nut properly and the shafts get enough wear to misalign under the nut.
