25 hp Mercury serial# 6425504. Starts fine on earmuffs and when i first put in the water. After cruising to the fishing hole and shut it off it will not restart with the switch. The pull rope will start it fine. When I get it home it starts fine with the switch. When I try to restart at the lake all I get is a click at the motor.

If all your electrical connections ar clean and tight, you have the common symptoms of a bad solenoid. You can verify this by jumping the 2 big wires at the solenoid the next time it just clicks.

Maybe it's just not charging and the battery has run down. Check for 14 or more volts while running briskly.

I think I'd wiggle the battery connections and take voltage readings at the

Battery

All three posts of the solenoid

And the starter post

Both during the times it starts and times it doesn't.

The battery should have at least 11 or more volts at all times even when cranking over that motor. Almost 13 volts just sitting there fully charged.

The little terminal at the solenoid should have 12 volts when in the start position.

One side of the solenoids big connectionds should be 12v all the time and the other 12v when starting.

And 12v at the starter post while in the start position.

Also there should be zero volts between any metal part of the motor and the negative terminal on the battery during attempts at starting.
