It all depends on what boat you have the motor on, and the weight of the boat, what you plan to use the boat for (fishing, pulling skiers, trolling, etc.)...

Assuming you have the motor on a 17-20ft bass boat, I'd start with a 22-25p prop that is vented. But that is no guarantee that it will be the best prop in every case. You're goal is to reach near the max rpm at WOT for that motor, which is probably around 5500-5800...

I would call Mercury and tell them your set-up and that may be the best option...

But give us as much details as you can. You will get several good responses from some awesome members on this forum... And I'll try my best also...

KCLOST is giving you the right #s, Its trial and error from there. Im running a 25P High Five on my 18' Bass boat with the same engine, but you are going to need a lower pitch, I think I would opt for a four blade in a stainless, probably a 21-23P.

Where is you cavitation plate in reference to the bottom of your hull? Thats the plate above your prop on the outdrive. Put the engine about vertical and line up that plate with the bottom of the boat and let us know if it is even, lower, or higher and how much in inches.

Have you run this engine on this boat before, or is it new to this boat?

If you have run this engine, we need to know the Wide open throttle RPMs and what prop you are using now. The more information you can give us the better.

A 19 pitch vented stainless would be good. If you are loading your boat down and skiing, you may want to drop down to 17 pitch.

If your hole shot sucks, it's time to drop the pitch even more... Let us know...
