Good Evening Group, I'm a foreign car technician trying to figure out the no spark situation on my friends merc.He says he was trolling for about an hour when it suddenly shut down never to restart. It has no spark. I unhooked both black yellows from switch box and tested that no dc exists at those wires in any position of ign switch, still disconnected,I cranked and no spark.Stator seems to be open circuited on tests between blues and reds from stator. Very clean and well maintained motor...no visible broken wires or broken insulation...Do these have known stator problems or switch box problems? What resistance readings should I get as I don't have a DVA tester?( On stator leads) Many thanx for your time, Paul I'm familiar with alternator supported CDI systems from motorcross bikes. Please help!

blue--75 to 90/ red 3250 to 3650 this is with a Fluke Meter and is were unreliable test. Usally no spark at all is the stator, losing spark on one or more cyl is the switch box. you shoudn't have any DC current on the b/y wire it would destroy the switch box, Yes the have problems with both units often---Bob

Re: 1995 merc 40hp 4 cyl No Spark

Thank you Bob, There never was any voltage at the b/y lead. I tested that to make sure the boat's wiring wasn't damaging the switchbox in any way.Using an old analog meter in rx 10k testing between any 2 wires is open circuit, except between r/w and r which is 22 ohms with digital meter. between all leads and ground is also open circuit. Sounds like bad stator to me also.....What do you say? Thank you for your time and patience, sincerely,Paul
