Re: hard starting 115hp mercury

Found the problem with the hard starting, this sounds stupid and never accured to me but i tryed holding the priming upright and primed the crap out it and it started up right away, tryed it the next day and had the same result. Thanks for all the advice

Re: hard starting 115hp mercury

I have a 1983 115 inline six and it fits the bill with everything I read in this post. The only difference is the bendix will kick out of the flywheel after only a few revolutions when it it cold, once started with lots of gas in the carbs(5-10 minutes of trying) it starts and runs fine. I have been fishing with morning temps of about 20 degrees. I can't fiqure out how to keep the bendix in long enough for the engine to start.

A cylinder firing kicks out the bendix. Prime it more so that all it wet when you go to touch it off.

-W

I have a 78 inline 115HP my buddy had the boat before me and he could never get it to start , Me I can start her in under 10sec. PRIME it till its hard then give it one more forced pump ! Fast Idle lever ALL THA WAY , Choke it and it will fire right up !!!

That's exactly the way I do mine.Except I don't use my choke because it don't work. But I have never had a problem yet.Anyways it doesn't get that cold here in Cali.

Yep....... to start them is to flood them.

Once warm they touch off in 1/2 a revolution. I've rope started mine (warm) when the stereo playing at the beach killed the battery.

-W
