XR2 difference

I have a mercury black max XR2 150 hp (1987). What is the difference between this motor and the standard black max.

Gearcases, I believe..that's what I was told..I have an XR-4.

gear cases are the same 4 1/2 inch ..it was the <br />XR4 that tried the skinny case ..most of those have been replaced with the "stronger one.<br />biggest diff is port timing , and carb's<br />XR 2 is redlined @ 6000..standard 150 ws 5500..<br />I believe , Im not sure but there was a 15 HP ( prop rated vs crankshaft )difference ...I think both are 2 liter blocks

hmm my 86 XR2 is still running well..<br />havent seen anything flying off yet ..<br />still turns 6 grand

you got a good one then had one grenade on an old allison I knew it was bad when I turned around and saw a busted spot in the cowl. Mine was turning a little more rpms .

eww, sorry ..those cowlings are hard to come by<br /> <br />just kidding ..mine usually only runs about 4 grand if I have a way to go ..<br />I haved babied it ..gonna get twenty years out of it ,,( fingers crossed) one more to go..<br />head bolts are still untouched ..but now every other bolt on it has much wear....<br />I need a zipper on the carb,s
