What kind of gauges can I use when running an outboard (Temp, Fuel, Volt...etc)?<br /><br />'84 Merc 35HP<br /><br />Thanks

Sorry, maybe I wan't clear....what type of gauges, not manufacture. Can I install and TEMP guage for example?

Most gauge equipped outboards have Tach, speedomter, fuel, oil pressure (4-strokes) and voltmeter. Trim indicator, hourmeter, fuel flow, and temp are other options. In my view, the tach, fuel and voltmeter are the most important. Everything else is "candy". Newer motors have multifunction gauge units for oil, overheat, fuel, etc. They may be separate gauges or built into the Tach and/or Speedometer.

For the outboard itself, I recommend the tach, water pressure guage and Temp. Guage...<br /><br />I'm sure you already have an overheat switch on that motor (there should be one)...<br /><br />Hook the tach, up to the rectifier. The water pressure guage line will hook up to a plug probably behind the flywhell on the top of the block. The Temp sender will most likely go where the overheat switch already is installed.. On a single bank motor you normally don't have both, because there is only one place to mount either type of sender without making modifications to the motor...

I am going to ask anyway... I know how 2 cycle engines work, but I am seeing a lot of refereces to a thermostat. Would an outboard engine have such a thermostat? Mercurcy '84 35HP.<br /><br />Thanks
