Preface: I have a 1987 SeaRay Seville 17' w/ OMC Cobra 140hp. Appears to be using some mercury parts as well...i.e. cabling.

I bought the new Teleflex CH1700 Sidemount throttle control, appears to work with anything. I have had no problem getting my cables connected but have an extra wire from my other control...a purple wire. The new control came with red, green and blue, also a pair of brown wires.
1st Q) Where do I connect the purple wire?
2nd Q) Do the brown wires connect to the red/yellow striped wire that was also cut during removal of old unit?

Re: Control Wiring (Purple?)

A reply from Teleflex just came in:

The purple wire is for tilt/trim when trailering. The old controller had this feature but it did not appear to work with my OMC. Does the purple wire have to be connected?

Re: Control Wiring (Purple?)

If I am not mistaken, the purple wire is normally the switched +12Vdc from the ignition switch. That would run things like dash lights and gauges requiring switched 12V.
The red/yellow is usually the start circuit that runs from the ignition switch to neutral safety switch to the starter solenoid. Not sure about the new controller.
