I was wondering in general what the most popular ski and cruiser boat make and models where for the corresponding periods of time:

•
• 1980-1985
• 1985-1990
• 1990-1995
• 1995-2000

Most popular meaning the most bought or that you saw around, not what was the best.

I know there is some person out there that meticulously studied this in detail and can recite the bow length and Cfm's of the carburetors for any given model and year. If that’s you now is your chance to spill your knowledge :)

Mahalo

Welcome ATL!!

It might be helpful to post what you are actually doing, then somebody might get more excited and really help. Region makes a lot of difference due to weather differences etc . . .

Cobra is right in a way as Bayliners are always at the very low end on price, so people buy the heck out of 'em. Depends on what you mean by most popular. The Bayliners are the most populous, but popular is a little subjective . . .

Also, a little definition of Ski and Cruiser would be helpful. Tournament ski boat? 30 ft. cruiser? 25 ft. pocket cruiser?

Quietcat, "most popular" by the original poster's definition is what we should be answering. In this case, "most popular" and "most populous" mean the same thing.

Also, I don't think his motivation for asking really matters...he's just asking a question.

I wasn't trying to be rude. Just thought it would be fun to answer but seemed too broad to me. I did miss that clarification though.

With that definition I think Cobra is correct, with one caveat; not sure I would call any Bayliner a skiboat other than the Ski Challenger.

BTW, I have never been a Bayliner Basher. I would even own one, I particularly like yours Stratoman . . . I even have a Strat ;)

Ok sorry about that. If you really want to know the specifics, im doing a research paper on windshields for populous speedboats. The years involed are the ones mentioned. Ultimately I want to narrow it down to models, and makes of boats. And using that information find out specific materials, thicknesses, and angles of the windshields to the top five.

I am not gonna split the years, but I'd look at SeaRays, Bayliners, Maxums, Cobalts . . .

Ya know I just thought of something. Why don't you do a search on Iboats for used boats. Use your year splits and simply start countin'. That should start to get you close.

Baja Sport and SunSport were common in the 80s.
Mastercraft Ski boats are very common around here as are Natiques.

I see more Glastrons, Sea Rays, and Bayliners than anything though.

No doubt there's a good business opportunity for reasonably priced replacement windshields (vs the $4000 Taylor Made ones). Perhaps the company you are doing the research for can come up with a generic frame that can be bent to order and use scratch resistant polycarbonate vs. tempered glass which could be formed much easier as well.

Looks like Iboats has started their own little popularity poll....

Check out the new forum headings at the bottom of the forums home page. All the popular boat brands are listed, with more brands to come shortly. Isn't it shocking to see that the Bayliner forum is getting lots of traffic already....but what the heck is a Seaswirl? I never heard of it but apparently it's winning so far!

That sounds like a good idea and would benefit a lot of people :) . Unfortunately the research I’m conducting is not for making windshields or windscreens, but for the attenuation of radio waves through the different materials.

Thank you very much for everyone’s input and support :D
