1980 mercury 7.5 runs great at idle and at full throttle. But the prop hardly turns. It's like the motor is runnin full throttle and the speed is like trolling. I have this also in another post. But what is the rod that comes up from the lower unit with a metal ball on the end. Does the ball part connect to anything?

How do I check the prop hub? And what would I replace if it's bad, the prop?

mark your prop near the nut in three places in a row,1 on the prop housing,2 on the rubber bushing, and 3 on the splined bushing, run the eng.and then check if any of the 3 marks are out of alignment. If not aligned you have a " SPUN PROP ",needs to be re hubbed..

Well around my way we don't have a prop shop. If I discover it's bad I have to remove it to replace. I already remove the nut and washer, but the prop won't move. Is there a special way to remove it? Can I do it without any special puller? I did spray it with Deep Creep oil.
