Without thinking I grabbed some synthetic outboard oil at the store and did a 50:1 ratio in 3 gallons of gas for my 63 Hydrodyne. Is this bad?? I called the guy I bought it from and he kind of sounded a little freaked out that I used marine grade synthetic oil instead the straight up outboard oil he had been using.. Have I screwed my motot up????

pins&needles

Is that 4 stroke or two cycle outboard oil?, If it's 2 cycle, & the engine calls for a 50 to 1 mix, I don't see a problem.

Your 700 "Baby Tower of Power" should like the synthetic just fine. In fact it'll probably clean all the carbon out of it and it'll run better than it ever did.

There is no technically valid reason for the guy at the marine place to say that a BETTER oil would harm your engine.

As long as it's marine-rated TCW-3 or better oil it's OK to use.

HTH and Happy Boating...........ed

Thanks for the reply. I was curious as to why a better oil would be bad for my outboard. I know its an oldie but goodie kind of motor but come on..... Now I can sleep tonight...

thanks again
