I have a 2002 40ELPTO that is leaking oil from the Oil injection system. It is not a cracked plastic line, but I can't seem to find the leak. Any suggestion?

Where is the oil present ? Should be easy to find the leak. Clean and dry everything up then see what gets wet. It will help to fill the tank and let it sit in the sun for awhile to build up pressure in the tank. Check the area around each connection and along the lines as well. The lines have a tendancy to become hard and brittle but yours are only 3yrs old.

Gasman, did you end up getting this fixed? I have a recently purchased 1998 90HP ELPTO with a similar problem. Previous owner believed leak was from cap on oil tank, but can't see any evidence of that. My oil lines look and feel like they're in pretty good nick, so I think it might be coming from the oil pump. Am going to pull the bottom cowl off and degrease the area to see if I can pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from, but would like to hear where you narrowed yours down to. Cheers.

Most of them leak when oil tank is filled all the way & engine is tilted, I think it comes out of the vent but it runs down the cables & drips into the transom, very common

Re: 40 hp Oil Injection Leak

I went through this with my '91 Mariner 175. Kept trying to track down a small oil leak. In my case it was a crack in the cap on the small oil tank. It's very easy to overtighten these plastic caps. Mine was leaking from the crack in the plastic cap, running down the bottom of the oil tank, and onto the clear plastic oil line. I was convinced it was the oil line that was leaking until I tightened down on the cap a little bit and saw the crack. Good luck.<br />Kenny
