another pee hole promblem

I have an 89Mercury XR4 150 Black Max. At first I had a oil pump promblem, which I found that the drive was going bad so I bypassed it and now premixing. I need some info on drive shaft, do I leave it in or take it out. Also have Question about the pee hole. After I got the oil pump bypassed I bought some muffs to start it up and noticed that there was no water out of the pee hole, how long does it have to be running to start peeing. The boat has not been started for about a year. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

No more than a few minutes. If still no pee, push a weedwhacker line into the pee-er to clear any debris, if still no water, perhaps the impeller has taken a set (permanently bent vanes)), time for new impeller.

I cleaned the pee hole and still no water. I started it with the muffs again and let it run for a few minutes or so and a warning alarm(constant beep) came on so I shut the engine down.Some one told me to check the t-stat, whats the truth to that. And if you still think its the impeller, how difficult is that to replace. Also does any one know what I should do about that oil pump shaft. Thanks in advance for help.

When was the last time the imellor was replaced?? It could very well be the problem. If the engine has ever been cranked out of the water w/o muffs or anything the impellor is ruined. It only takes a second or two for the rubber paddles on the impellor to melt w/o water for lubrication.<br /><br />Its recommended that the impellor be replaced yearly.

Totally true. Replace the impeller, If you have a poppet valve, replace that too. It's not to hard to do if you've never done it. The rebuild kit comes with instructions.
