backing up

i have a 24' pontoon with mariner 90 , yesterday while loading instead of going into reverse it just started making a clicking sound,i wonder if anyone has had this happen also, or knows what i should check frist. thanks

Check your shift linkage adjustment. Put it in reverce with your hand after you disconect shift linkage. and see if it needs cable adjustment.

I am hoping we can get some more suggestions on this one. I have the same problem, reverse just clicks and the boat barely moves. I had someone put it in reverse while not running (in the garage) and the cable moves the link all the way to the rear and seams to move the vertical lever to the side, any other suggestions?

If the cable actually moves it into reverse, but it still doesn't go in reverse, it's probably time for a major lower unit repair. If the cable doesn't move it into reverse all the way, it needs to either be adjusted, or the cam in the shifter needs to be replaced.
