I recived a boat from my dad i have a 16 ft american starcraft with 70 hp mercury motor it needs to be wired and throttle asembeld any suggestions on were i can go for manuils an scematics

Typically the serial number is on the transom bracket, below the powerhead on the right side, when looking from rear (prop) side.<br /><br />Depending on the motor's age, it may be in the top of the transom bracket near the front of the cowling. You'd likely have seen that one.<br /><br />Failing that, check for a serial number stamped into a welch plug (size of a 25¢ coin) on the side of the block. Serial numbers are 6 or 7 digits and a prefix letter in most instances.

its me agian need help been looking for bracket with model number can only find serial number on motor the comp name is kiekhaefer corp can any one tell me a rough age of my motor based on manifacture ?<br />and thanx to amd rules.. i found serial number finally

Try www.maxrules.com . He lists the serial numbers for all years and horsepower mercs/mariners.

We can probably tell you the exact year , based on the serial number you found. Kiekhaefer IS Mercury. He was the founder, and for many years the brand was his name.<br /><br />What is the serial number you found?
