200hp merc 1989 starting to run hot?

i,m having troble with my outboard i think i need to change the water pump but i was wondering if anyone might have a digram of a 200 merc lower unit? its been a long time. used to work on outboard alittle when i was a kid<br />and i,m not sure of the year ser#6489612 if anyone can help i chould use it thanks<br />e-mail- nujohn@msn.com

If you don't have a Seloc manual, this site will help http://www.biggerhammer.net/mercury/factory_manuals/.. It is for newer engines but the lower hasn't really changed.<br /><br />-andy

I don't think bighammer will have your manual, I have an 89 and it is not there.<br />I do thing you wil be able to see how it is done w/bighammer manuals, don't think they have changed that much.<br /> I don't think that the number you posted is correct. Thanks guys<br />the # 6489612 is the only number there is I looked agian? maybe motors older then? the boats an 1986<br />took it for a run yesterday my warning buzzer goes off at about 2500 -4500 at idle and flat out ( around 5000) she run fine?? i,m thinking maybe water pump? I think temp range is 140-160 degees i run the boat 30 hrs a week had the pump done a little last the two years ago?

You have a 1984 Merc 200hp....<br /><br />Your temp range is not 140-160 on this motor. However the t-stats do open at 145F. Your temp. sensor measures metal on the cylinder head. You will see temps up to 180F at idle and up to 200-210F at WOT... The overheat switch/alarm is set to go off at 240F (again based off of cylinder head metal temperature).

Your motor probably has a Brown color band on the cowling...?

Black and silver would be 1986, but your serial# does not indicate that...
