First of all I would like to say that this is a wonderful forum, and thank everyone one for there help. The problem I have is the motor will run great for about 10 to 15 mins. and then just shut off like someone turned off the key. It doesn't matter if it idling or at full throttle. After it shuts off if you try to start it, all it does is just spins over like it isn't firing. If you let it set and cool for about 45 to 90mins and try to start it, it fires right up. Does this sound like a switchbox or is there other components that could cause these symtoms? Thanks for any help.

Re: 1988 60hp Mercury dies after getting warm

Hey man,
I have the same problem with my 1972, 650, 3 cyl. I'm loosing spark when engine is warm. I've checked my coil and it's good, My carb has gas. I think it's the Switch box, but I'm checking all other options before spending that much $.
If anybody has any advise how to check switch box, we would appreciate very mych.

If the switchbox is overheating it could cause it to fail. Not sure why it is happening (which is the key to fixing it), but sometimes the switchboxes just go. They are the single most replaced ignition component on models that incorporate them. Try a DVA test on your stator after it has warmed up.

-andy

It's like a multimeter, but it reads peak voltages from AC voltage sources (like you stator). You stator should output a certain peak voltage at idle and above 2000RPMs.
