Hi guys!

I have just recently bought a boat that has what looks to be a 70's model 650 mercury blue band outboard on it, I would like to know what you guys think of this engine? runs very well from what I can tell, also could you please tell me what the fuel mixture is for these engins? do I have to use leaded or can I use unleaded fuel?

Thanks

abs2010

The mixture should be 50-1...a pint to six U.S. gallons ...you guys use the imperial gallon down under.???...unleaded fuel should be Ok....Is this motor 3 or 4 cylinder.??...

Unleaded is o/k (you've got no choice, leaded is no longer available anyway).

Before metric, we used imperial gallons, but now it all metric.

50:1 is - 200ML (milli-litres) of oil for every 10 litres of fuel.

The average outboard fuel container is 22.5 litres (5 imp gallons or 6 US gallons, confused yet?). You would put 450ML of oil into a 22.5L container.

I always just consider my 22.5L containers as 25L when mixing and put in 500mL. It's easier on the old engine that way and I just dump half of the 1 litre bottle into each of my tanks.
Can you tell us the serial number of your engine? (Stamped in a plate above the transom mount) With the # we can tell you the exact year of your motor.
Eric

DUH.!!..Of course there is no leaded...I misread I guess unleaded or premium unleaded...I'm lucky for sure to only have to deal with a pint to six...of course thats what we are used to....Al
