if you turn over a motor a few times to see that it is not locked up and no fuel is getting to the motor after it has sat for many many months can that hurt the piton walls/rings?

What is a few times? How was it stored? How many is many many months? Not going to cause damage if you just crank it over a couple revolutions. If there is damage something was terribly wrong to start with.

Like said no it won't hurt it Just checking to see if it was locked up. I would not turn it over more than I had to with out at least some kind of lube in it if nothing more than a little pre mix. Sure if you have trouble starting you can't avoid it but try to at least spray a little pre mix in the carbs it will turn over easy-er. Tim

Re: turning over dry

I have wondered about this since I have an electric starter and since I've had to do some work on the starter I have cranked it a bit when dry. I also wondered if cranking speed would have the potential to damage the water pump--any thoughts on that?

It need's to be on muffs when you turn it over. Impellers don't like to run dry(Kills them). Tim
