Considering a switch to newer motor from a 1978 115 (cdi)in great shape to a newer 95 115 mrerc.

Would i be correct to say:

Prop rated my 78 is really a 90hp right? so more HP/speed?
Better fuel eff.-I do consider this important(though doesnt economically).
Less unexpected maintenance (maybe?)
Some performance improvments (almost 30 yrs of technolgy difference there)

Most imp. I have good info of motor being an excellent motor, as opposed to buying a "used motor".

More like 100 at the prop... but ya overall.

The only downside is that you'll have a plain vanilla outboard as opposed to the legendary Tower of Power.
-W

Well Clams, all due respect to the tower, and I loved my '89 115, the sucker is too tall to cast over and my son was always hitting it with his fishing lures and knocking the paint off it.

My current engine is an '02 90 and I like it's low siloutte much better.

But you can't beat the smoothness of that tower; just purred like a kitten and hit the throttle and look out; you were gone. I had a Merc vented prop on it and boy would it come outta da hole with that. And waterski behind it? A dream.

Mark

Just remember that 95 115 is going to be a 2 + 2 so your only running on 2 cyl up to around 1800 RPM when the other 2 kick in, not as good for water skiing but you do get a good kick when they do.

I am still breaking in this new (2003 non current) 4-stroke 90hp motor. Only ran about 5 gal of time so far. WOW-what a difference!

Smooth, as fast (? - guessing)and very nice.
The ventillation (slipping) in turns that I had with the 115 is almost nonexistant with this new one!

Maybe the extra 50lbs of motor weight puts stern in deeper(?)or maybe just a diiferance in motor design (?), I dunt know, but its nice.
