I have one of those annoying oil alarm problems on my 1998 Merc 150. Never cuts off no matter what I do. I've read this forum extensively about possible causes and solutions, but can't seem to resolve yet without spending hundreds of dollars switching out parts. Three questions:

1. If turning the tank mounted cap sensor upside down (so that the float is fully up) does not cause the alarm to cut off, does that rule out a problem with the cap sensor?

2. If I take the oil sensor off (i.e. the one mounted just above the oil pump) and put my finger in the slot where the sensor was, should I be able to feel the pulse with my finger, or is the pulse too weak to feel manually?

3. I read in one thread that a "faster" pace beeping (as opposed to a continuous beep or slower intermittent beep) means that the problem is definitely in the alarm module. Is this true? Mine beeps very fast and even does so when key is in "on" position but engine not running.
