hi people can anyone tell who made my motor <br />merc or yamaha?????<br />its a two cylinder 40 mariner serial no:<br />6e9 314874<br />it says made in japan on the serial plate<br />the reason i want to know is that i'm looking to convert it to electric start and put a charging circit on it by souring a second hand or a siezed unit to swap out the parts

Hi mate no expert but i've got a yamaha made mariner. Easiest way to check:
1. Take the cowling off
2. Check the on the port side of the cylinder (viewed from rear).
3. If it is Yamaha made there should be a small yamaha emblem on the casting (metal coating).
Looks like this, stamped on (without the colour).
