1992 merc 40hp SN#0D105940 Tach install

Can I install any tach on this motor, I noticed there is an unused plug, looks to be 4-5 pin at the front control box, does this have the sending information for the tach I would need to install a tach? Where can I find a wiring schematic which shows what these wires in plug go to? Thanks for the help.

Yes thats the tach plug in, most O/B tachs come with a wiring diagram, but I think the plug in is a dealer only item

Only marine tachs are compatible, the automotive types are not.<br />As for the schematic, here's what my manual shows (1992 Mariner Magnum 40)<br /><br />- Blk = GND (c)<br />- Purple = Switched +12V (e)<br />- Grey = Tach signal (b)<br />- Tan/Blu = Warning Buzzer (a)<br />- Brown/Wht = Trim Gauge (d)<br /><br />looking at the pins<br /><br /> (a)(b)<br /> O O<br /> 0 0 0<br />(c)(d)(e)<br /><br />Hope this helps.

Laddies & RodC, thanks for the help, the wiring identification will help alot, I have a manual ordered, but this will help greatly.
