I bought a seal kit for my 200 merc. and I cannot get the brackets off the engine so i can slide the 2 new seals over the piston on either side. Is there some kind of trick or are they just stuck from corrosion? Do I need to heat it up or put a gear puller on it? I just don't want to break it. Its a seastar/teleflex hydraulic system the kit # is HS5157. Any help would be great!

I just removed mine. used a pc of alluminium bar and tapped in off. a gear puller should work. the problem i hads is getting the gland seals loose. i replaced the defective side, but the port side wont budge.

mistylady

Yeah I got the the 2 seals loose but I can't get the 2 brackets that go back to the motor loose. I'll probably talk to a marine mechanic and get some more advice before I break something.
