Hi all,
Unfortunatly I am back for more help. i copied other previous posts below for info. So it seemed like a switchbox for sure as in posts below. I bought a new box and cycilinder 5 still does not fire.

posted 05-05-2006 05:59 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
When I go to wide open throttle with my 115 sometimes I only get to 4,000RPM then after a short time something kicks in and the engine goes to a full 5,000RPM on its own. Other times it goes to 5,000 right away. Any suggestions would be appriciated. (coil, switchbox.....?)
Thanks
==========
Clams Canino

Lieutenant Commander
Member # 36683

posted 05-05-2006 06:23 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could be a 1/2 fouled cylinder kicking in after it clears.

But try spark testing all 6 too. Just hook a timing light to each plug wire to verify power. Then clean the plugs with carb cleaner and a terri rag.

Past all that suspect a carb.

-W

--------------------
C.C. It would repeat whereas carb problems should stay cleared out once cleared during the "boating season".

Wouldn't hurt to decarb and put in a new set of plugs.

Mark
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posts: 854 | Registered: Dec 2005 | IP: Logged |

bobnteri@optonline.net
Cadet
Member # 57871

posted 05-06-2006 09:40 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. Checked spark with a timing light as recomended, I have NO spark on Cyl's 2 & 6 at idle. Is there a way to check coils or switch boxes. All wires on switchboxes are new and they are on correctly.
Thanks again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posts: 10 | Registered: May 2005 | IP: Logged |

Laddies
Captain
Member # 49545

posted 05-06-2006 10:27 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those 2 cyls don't share a trigger winding, so it's not a trigger. They do share a switch box and stator windings. Without a DVA it's not tpo easy to test, you may use a OHM meter to test the stator windings but the results are not as accurate as a DVA. Lacking a OHM meter one can aways change the wires one the 2 boxes and see if the problem stays with the box or goes with the stator wires, but either use new plugs or a spark gap to ensure its not bad plugs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posts: 3677 | From: northern michigan | Registered: Sep 2004 | IP: Logged |

bobnteri@optonline.net
Cadet
Member # 57871

posted 05-06-2006 02:12 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks,
did spark test again when engine was warmed up some. #2 cyl not firing and #6 is. Next i switched switch boxes and #2 fires and #5 does not. Would this be proof that the switch box is bad??
Thanks again guys,
Bob
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posts: 10 | Registered: May 2005 | IP: Logged |

Laddies
Captain
Member # 49545

posted 05-06-2006 04:15 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
99% chance Bob

This might sound silly, but did you check the spark plug wires and the coils?

Hi,
yes i should have mentioned that. i did replace all spark plug wires. Before buying a switchbox i did switch cyl 5 to another coil and it did not fire; so iwas quite confident it was the switchbox. but...... :(
Thanks

If it's the trigger it will be 5 and another that does not fire UNLESS the trigger wire itself for #5 is broken inside. Try moving that trigger wire and see if it follows it.

Also try switching the 2 boxes - just to see if it follows.

-W
