If engine stays running with A,F,B(start) but not A,F(RUN), what would be failing?

Re: LADDIES ignition switch qestion + diagram

My unit is a 1966 mercury 950ss inline 6 cyl. I was starting and stopping over 20 times while working on a fuel issue hooked to a water hose when suddenly it failed stay started in run postion. It only keeps running with key cranked to start position. After reading hundreds of posts, I'm lead in too many directions and don't know where to begin. Thanks.

Additional info: I'm not getting a recharge on my good battery but as you stated in another post, stator and rectifier has nothing to do with issue of continued engine opperation. Right?

Could it be a trigger failer being over ridden by continuous cranking?

To test the ign switch and plugin you should have 12v at the white switch box wire. I doubt if it's the trigger you can test the system quite simply, there are many posts here on the test if you can't find one with search let me know and I will go thru it with you
