Recently purchased used boat with 88 115 Yamaha
Engine seems to run great, no warning lights or sounds going off. just smoke and oil trail behind me when fishing, not good for running lures through.

This engine is pumping too much oil to the oil
reservoir on the engine. It blows the rubber cap off and oil goes everywhere. I use Yamalube oil.

Re: 88 115HP Yamaha pumping too much oil

Does anyone have an idea on why this 88 Yamaha 115 hp engine would be pumping too much oil into the reservoir mounted on the engine?? It blows oil out the vent hole and sprays oil all over the engine. :(

There is a oil sensor in the oil tank on the engine. If the float part of the sensor isnt working it will keep the transfer pump on. The other reason is the oil control module mounted beside the oil tank on the engine fails. There is an updated module that has a gray cover on the wiring harness of the new module. To check the sensor you can use an ohm meter.

Re: 88 115HP Yamaha pumping too much oil

Thanks Guys,

I've narrowed this problem down to the oil controller. I followed the instructions from the site given and it points to the oil controller.

New one goes for $192.00, found a used one by internet in Miami, Fl. for $45.00. Have not received it yet but hoping this will solve my problem and not have an oil slick follow behind when I'm on the water.

I see all this stuff on the site where these guys want to unhook their oil injection system, This is a gravity fed system on Yamahas and I think with only three major parts that can go bad on this system that it's not that smart to mix their oil. The three major parts are the oil controller, oil pump and float sensor. I'll put out a couple hundred dollars for parts before I switch to mixing and guessing what ratio of gas and oil I have in my tank.

hello
dude now would be a good time to change the oil filter in the remote tank. clean the filter screen in the engine oil tanl. make sure you put the screen on the sensor assy correctly and replace the tank filter seal.
good luck and keep posting
