Hi Rodbolt,<br />If there was a "outboards for dummies" book, I probably wouldn't understand it. Please bear with me. If I approach the motor from the propeller side (aft?), there are two holes just below the powerhead, about 3/4's up the shaft, above the water. As far as I can make out, the exhaust vents through the propellor. In running, water pees out of only one of the abovementioned holes. I think this is what you are referring to as the water pump telltale. The other hole next to it has what appears to be carbon from the exhaust. Is this the idle relief hole? If this is blocked, how do I unblock it. There are no led's, red or any other colour to indicate overheating, nor have I noticed any alarm. There does not seem to be any loss in RPM in running although the motor does not idle. I reached a speed of 40Km per hour, (measured with a GPS) which was constant. The water pump and impeller were serviced/replaced in 2000 at the same time as the plugs. The carb was also cleaned and balanced. The motor has not run since then. My problem is the carbon blowing from the one hole, which wouldn't really worry me if the local repair guys (including Suzuki) could give me an explanation. One fellow reckons there is a hole in the jacket, another reckons he'd have to open her up and check the cylinder head gasket, the third couldn't or wouldn't say anything other than it would cost me a grand to check it out and find the problem. Thanks for your help.
