I have a 2001 Yamaha 4 stroke 115 hp and have a recurring problem with so called contaminated fuel injectors. $700 everytime I have them cleaned. To my surprise two other guys in the local area have exactly the same recurring problem. Is anyone else having this problem?<br /><br />Best regards,<br /><br />John

I think you answered your own question with this statement.<br /><br />"To my surprise two other guys in the local area have exactly the same recurring problem."

I don't know the "answer" to your problem, but maybe you should investigate what they mean by contaminated injectors. What are they contaminated with? Do you have filters on your fuel system? Is it water, dirt, or something in the system inside the engine like deteriorating seals. Most of the fuel injectors on the market are using the same principals to operate. Are you missing some maintenance item? I don't own a EFI outboard but the injectors on my car work just fine and I buy my car gas at the same place I buy my boat gas. If its water you need to find a better filter. Maybe your gas tank needs to be cleaned, however a good filter should stop that I would think.

They dont like water. Raycor filter, alarge one. The Suz have a 1000 hr filter between the pump and injectors, and it passes water, you slice the filter, rust on both ends, also find pitting inside the injector rail.

Re: Defective Yamaha Fuel Injectors

Thanks for the replies guys. I had the best fuel filter you could buy installed from the beginning. After having the fuel injectors apparently cleaned (the dealer wouldn't allow me to be there when the work was done on the boat) I have been using an external gas tank brand new that I bought from the dealer. Now have the same problem again losing rpm's on the high end. I eliminated my gas tank since the injectors were cleaned and again have the same recurring problem as the other guys do. This contamination issue seems like a convenient line of BS to me. It isn't my internal boat gas tank so now what is the problem?<br /><br />Thanks again for the replies.<br /><br />John

I guess the dealer has a right to not let you in the repair shop, but he should show you the dirty injectors. Sounds like time for different dealer. Would be nice to know what is contaminating the injector. What be the name of the best fuel filter<br />you had installed. If its is water, the best will pass water. Except for a waterlock valve in an aircraft fueling systems.

Re: Defective Yamaha Fuel Injectors

i am having a similiar problem with water in my fuel system. just tore out the fuel cell on my 19 alia kia and had it prressure tested and welded. replaced all the fuel lines and reglassed it all back in.. big job. now my fuel injectors are rusted and the dealer wants 189 per injector for my 2005 yamaha 50 fuelinjected outboards. thats 800 dollars total for 8 new injectors. any ideas about how or what to soke them in overnight to clean them back to life. The engines will hardly start. The compression is 180psi all cylinders. The fuel pump seems to be pumping sufficiantly. any ideas? thanks , ben

Re: Defective Yamaha Fuel Injectors

they simply dont tolerate water nor debris.
each injector has a small filter pressed into the injector.
send the injectors to a service facility such as Flagship Marine and they can clean and flow test them.
you will get a computer printout of flow and Ohms before and after cleaning.
if injector clogging is an issue you MUST clean the VST and flush all rail and return lines or the issues reoccurs when the injector filters stop up again.
takes 30 min tops to R and R those injectors just remember to dump fuel rail pressure before removing the rail.
