Boat: Baja Islander 204
Year: 1991
Engine: GM 4.3l V6
HP: 230+ (modified)
Outdrive: Yamaha
Outdrive PN's:V6-DRA 6T5-CR-110094 (lower assembly) INT-PA 6T4-P-131996 (upper assembly)
Trim Motor: Yamaha 4 bolt, 4 wire
Numbers Stamped on the motor: c27-00 and 9e-0520

My motor has dead spots in it such that when you are attempting to trim the outdrive up or down, the motor will suddenly stop and stick. Sometimes you can tap on it with a screwdriver and it will start to move again, but most of the time, it requires me taking it apart and manually twisting the motor shaft for a bit. Needless to say, thats pretty messy as the trim fluid has to be drained and refilled every time.

So I've decided to replace the motor, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding the right part online anywhere. I've also tried a few of the local boat stores (west marine, boat us, etc) and no one seems to list a part number, or have those numbers stamped on the motor in their computers.

Tri State Marine told me that I should buy part number 6T4-84300-02-00 (which they want 600$ for.) But that doesnt show up online anyplace.

Next, I went through the Yamaha online parts catalog, and it seems as though every stern drive they have listed uses part number 6T4-43880-00-00 But I'm not sure if this will fit.

So, after exhausting all of my other sources, I turn to this forum for help. What replacement part should I be using for my power trim motor?

Re: Trouble finding the right replacement trim motor

As a follow up to my own post, I thought I'd put in some updated information I've received.

Tri State Marine now says that the correct part number for a replacement is

6T4-43880-01-00. Its 625$ from those guys. I ordered it and put it on a CC, and it should be in on thursday so I'll post then if I don't have any new info between now and then.

They also recommended that I go to R&R Auto Electronics and attempt to rebuild the existing motor. This will probably be cheaper, and if I can get it done before the new part comes in, I'll do that instead. I'll keep updating the thread as I gather more info in the hopes that someone else who might have the same problem can use it.
