Motor runs good out of water but stall in water? HELP!

I have a 1990 yamaha 225. I recently got a carb job and spark plugs. I put it in the water and it turns on fine, but when i put it in gear it will only rev up to 29x100 rpm and die out. It turns right up after that.I can rev it up out of gear up to 62x100 rpm. It will run all day on idle. Out of the water it runs fine in gear.<br /><br /> I also have just changed the gasoline and oil.<br /><br />Please help me.

sounds like it may be a fuel pump or fuel restriction problem. did you test the pumps? try running it on a remote tank maybe.

Use a small 5 gal tank of fuel as your source. Finger check the pull. May be air in the top of the line, or bad diaphram in pump. HAce you checked the hub on the prop? If on a load and it has failed may cause a problem with revs.

Take this motor back to the mechanic that did the carbs and plugs. Don't rev the engine to 6200 rpm in neutral. Go to the bottom of this web page and order a manual for this engine.
