I have a Suzuki 9.9 HP 4 stroke engine and I barely put 50 hours on it. I just got it back from the dealer for a fine tune and it runs like a sewing machine; really nice. :)
One thing tough is that there is little or no liquid coming out of the cooling cycle  .
I mentionned that to the dealer and when I got it back, it was still the same. Other than that the motor runs perfect.
Is the flow controlled by a thermostat or could the cooling circuit be clogged :( .
This is my first Suzuki, and my first 4 stroke engine and there is not a regular water debit like other 2 stroke engines I have ridden before. One way or another, how can we tell if the engine is running properly (cooling wise)

Re: No or little cooling liquid

Well, I found the problem myself. With adequate containers, I started the motor, and indeed there was no water coming out of the sprout hole (whatever the name). I took a fine rigid plastic wire and inserted it in the hole. After a few movements, when I removed the plastic wire, water came right out just like all engines do; everything is fine now.
Makes me wonder if Suzuki couldn't have made a slightly bigger hole or built a better filtering system for particles like sand.
Has anyone ever had this problem before; is there a procedure that we can do to find out if water will flow for cooling purposes.
If someone has a tip, I'd like to know.
Thank You

Happens to us all, and you never know what you will pick up in the water, so live with it. My first time out in my big boat this year I picked up a jellyfish and overheated!
That peehole is there to keep an eye on, so keep an eye on it

Re: No or little cooling liquid

Thanks for the advice. But since I never had a problem like that before and it just came back from the dealer for maintenance, I figured they could have picked it up.
I have been riding outboards for over 30 years, and this is the first time it happens to me. The dealer said there was a thermostat flow regulator... I'm a computer guy, not an outboard mechanic.
Thought the new models would have had some gadget, filter, or other indicator, but looks like the older models were better.

Re: No or little cooling liquid

The good news is if its just the pee hole that is clogged the engine is still getting cooling water. The pee hole is just an indicator stream. Keep one of the red plastic tubes off of a can of spray WD40 on the boat and poke it up there if it cloggs.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a great idea. I still find it  dumb that with today's technology  no outboard motor builder has tought of :( putting a flow switch to indicate the pee hole is clogged. When you're riding your looking ahead  , not in the back :( , so the motor could get damaged  because of an unknown clogged pee hole. Outboard companies should know better  .

hey wally manufacturers do make a water pressure guage kit for dash mounting, if it is a concern to you check with your dealer about this.
