I have an 18' Sailfish CC with a 2004 Yamaha 90hp. I used this boat and motor last year wihout any problems. I started it up with the muffs and it seamded to run fine including the the flow from the pilot hole. I did not notice the red indicator light on the consol, no alarm went off. This is the Sailfish gauge group nto Yamaha . Now the light is on all the time and wont go off. Any help would be apprciated.
Ed

Re: Yamaha overheat signal.

hello
is the motor a 2 or 4 stroke 90. is the red lamp on the console or inside the gauge. is it on with the key off, they key on engine off or just while the engine is running. have you tested the alrm system as per the anuaal maint schedule?
my opinion of the junk rigging/keyswitch assys used on smaller sailfish hulls is rather low. lots of failures. as the keyswitch and gauges die replace them with the proper yamaha ones wired correctly. some of the sailfish hulls had no audible alarms installed.

Rodbolt,
Thans again for your help. This is a 2 stroke motor. I have not checked the alarm signal. Where is the procedure for this? I am assuming this is a failure of some sort as the motor is cold and the light goes on as soon as you turn the key.
Ed

to test the alarm turn the key to on, engine off. follow the tan temp lead from the head. unplug the bullet connector and ground the harness side. alarm should sound. back to the light. what gauge is the light in and who made the gauge?

Rodbolt,
The gauges are Teleflex, but the light for the temp and low oil are just mounted in the gauge bezel and are not part of gauge.
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Yamaha overheat signal.

so which is lit. low oil or overheat? or are they marked. the original tach had an indicator for oil full, oil low and no oil left. when no oil is illuminated it goes into speed reduction and sounds the audible as well.

Rodbolt,
The light is on for the overheat. The oil light is not on. I was just describing the gauge and light layout.
Ed
